Extension of paternity and childcare leave

As of 1^er July 2021, the duration of paternity and foster care leave for a child is increased to 25 days for the birth of a child. It was 11 consecutive days up to that point. Paternity leave is applicable for children born from 1^er July 2021 or born before but expected to be born on or after that date.

Partial unemployment

As of 1^er in july 2021, employees will receive a 72% (instead of 84%) of net salary. Employees in companies in sectors most affected by the crisis and those in companies that have been closed administratively will continue to receive compensation equal to 84% net salary until August 31, 2021.

Unemployment insurance benefits

From 1^er July 2021, the amounts of the minimum allowance, the fixed part of the return-to-work (RRE) allowance and the minimum RRE threshold for training recipients are increased by 0.60%.

Unemployment Insurance Reform

Three measures of the unemployment insurance reform enter into force on 1^er july 2021: degressivity of unemployment benefit for the highest income groups, new rules on eligibility for unemployment insurance and a bonus-malus for companies in certain sectors who rely heavily on short contracts.

Work stoppages of liberal professionals

Starting on 1^er july 2021, liberal professionals (except lawyers) will be able to benefit from daily allowances for the first 3 months in the event of a work stoppage, with only 3 days of waiting like private employees, instead of 90 days until then. Depending on their income, their contribution will be between €50 and €370 per year, for a benefit of up to €22 to €169 per day, up to a maximum of 3 months per stop and 4 stops over 3 years.

Phase 4 of deconfinement

As of June 30, 2021, the tonnage limits will expire at locations that are open to the public (shops, gyms, swimming pools, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, museums), depending on the local health situation. Legal interest rate in the 2nd half of 2021

The statutory interest rates applicable to the 2^e semester 2021 were set by an order published in the Official Journal of 25 June 2021. They shall be fixed at 3.12% for claims of natural persons not acting for professional purposes and to 0.76% for all other cases.

VAT in e-commerce

As of 1^er July 2021, VAT is payable on all consignments imported from third countries to the European Union, irrespective of their value. Previously, shipments with a value less than €22 were exempt. Moreover, in specific cases, platforms that facilitate online sales of goods imported from third countries are now liable for VAT, regardless of the value of the shipment. VAT is therefore no longer systematically charged to the final customer at the time of delivery.

Obligation to provide information on plants at risk to health

From 1^er in july 2021, sellers of ornamental plants are required, before purchase, to inform their customers about the potential dangers of certain plants.
