The merit scholarship is a supplement to the high school scholarship, it has existed for more than 15 years. This supplement is paid during all schooling up to the certificate of professional competence (CAP) or the baccalaureate.

Who is eligible for the merit scholarship?

Three criteria are required to be eligible for the merit award in 2023-24:

  • have obtained a Good or Very Good rating from the National Patent Diploma (DNB);
  • be a high school scholarship recipient for 2023-2024;
  • to undertake in writing to continue with assiduous schooling until the CAP or the baccalaureate.

The amount of the grant

The amount depends on your grade level of high school scholarship. This is calculated on the basis of number of dependent children and family resources of the year 2022. The merit scholarship is paid, like the high school scholarship, in 3 times.

The quarterly amounts paid in 2023-24 in the following increments:

  • Step 1: €134 (or €402 for the year)
  • Step 2: €174 (or €522 for the year)
  • Step 3: €214 (or €642 for the year)
  • Step 4: €254 (or €762 for the year)
  • Step 5: €294 (or €882 for the year)
  • Step 6: 334 € (1 002 € for the year)

You can consult the ceilings on resources for each step.

Please note

if you are between 16 and 18 years of age, have abandoned your training and wish to return to vocational studies, you will be eligible for a grant supplement under certain conditions. Check with your institution's secretariat to see if you are eligible.

Warning

the merit scholarship may be suspended if the student is not attending school.

How to benefit?

If you meet the eligibility conditions, you will automatically receive an award decision. You do not have to take any steps other than a letter to send to the secondary school of assignment, committing you to continue your schooling with assiduity until CAP or the baccalaureate.

Please note

the merit scholarship may be combined with other aid: aid for the canteen, back-to-school allowance, high school social fund, boarding school allowance and equipment purchase allowance for pupils enrolled in vocational training.
