The warning signs of heart failure are little known, it is estimated in France that between 400,000 and 700,000 people suffer from it without knowing it. Failure to be diagnosed in time can result in serious complications, with an increased risk of hospitalization and even death in the most severe cases.

What is heart failure?

This condition is thought to occur when the heart loses muscle strength and normal contractility. It then no longer pumps enough blood to allow the organs to receive enough oxygen and nutrients, essential for their functioning.

Symptoms are easily detectable:

  • unusual shortness of breath: difficulty breathing again after simple exertion or at rest;
  • swollen feet and ankles: swelling on the feet and ankles, leaving visible the mark of the elastic of the socks;
  • rapid weight gain: 2 to 3 kilograms extra in a few days and without explanation;
  • excessive fatigue: A feeling of severe fatigue when walking, climbing stairs, or carrying loads.

If you experience one or more of these symptoms, particularly if you are over 60 years of age or if you have a chronic disease, you should be vigilant and consult your general practitioner. Early diagnosis may help slow the progression of the disease.
