Repair Bonus: financial assistance to patch your clothes and shoes

Publié le 21 novembre 2023 - Legal and Administrative Information Directorate (Prime Minister)

A bonus repair on textiles and footwear was introduced by the Government on 7 November 2023. When you go to an authorized repairer, a discount is applied directly to your invoice for the repair of the heel of your shoes or for the repair of a hole in your clothes for example.

The repair bonus on textiles and shoes is based on the same principle as the one on electronic and household appliances. You get an immediate discount when you go to a certified repairman to have your clothes or shoes repaired. You can find here is a map of authorized repairers. You can look for shoemakers and fashion designers near you. A list of approved clothing or footwear repair websites is also provided.

The amount of discount applied depends on the type of repair you want. For example:

  • €8 for putting a skate on your shoes;
  • €8 for sewing or gluing work on your shoes;
  • €7 for changing the tip of your shoes (the tip, the last thickness of the heel block directly in contact with the ground, serves as protection against premature wear of this part of your shoes);
  • €7 for patching a hole, snap or tear in your clothing;
  • €10 for changing a single lining on a garment, and €25 for a complex lining.

The different discounts offered as part of the repair bonus can only be implemented if the repair you want costs at least €12.

If you wish to carry out several repairs on the same garment or pair of shoes, all the corresponding reductions may be applied, provided that the total amount of the discount does not exceed 60 % of the repair price. For example, if the total amount of your repairs for a garment is €50, you cannot benefit from a discount greater than €30 (60% of €50).

Some items are not eligible for the repair bonus, including:

  • lingerie (underwear, socks...);
  • clothing made of leather and natural fur;
  • technical sports clothing for non-daily use (judo kimonos, neoprene diving suits, ski boots...).

Please note

only repairs are affected by the device; the repair bonus does not apply for touch-ups that aim to fit a garment to your waist.

Reminder

the financial support for the repair bonus is based on a fund financed by the eco-contributions paid by the textile, linen and footwear brands under the Anti-Waste and Circular Economy Act (AGEC) of 10 February 2020 and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle for textile products, linen and footwear.

The scheme aims to increase from 16 million pieces repaired in France in 2019 (according to data from the French Environment and Energy Management Agency) to 21.6 million by 2028.
