Youth mobility support for apprentices and trainees is evolving

Publié le 01 mars 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Mobi-Jeunesse support has been available again since February 15, 2024. This housing support scheme allows you to pay part of your rent provided that you are under 30 years of age, you are on an apprenticeship or professionalization contract with a non-agricultural private sector company and your gross monthly salary is 80% or less of the minimum wage.

Mobi-Jeunesse was no longer operational on 15 December 2023. Action Logement, the body in charge of the scheme, had indicated at the time that this system of housing assistance would evolve. For example, you must have changed your principal residence to get closer to your workplace. Your new home must be located more than 70 km from your old address (or more than 40 minutes by using a motor vehicle and registered vehicle or public transport). If this is not the case, you can only benefit from the mobilii-jeunesse assistance if you are faced with a double rent burden (tenant of two dwellings in the same period).

In addition, in order to receive this aid, it was previously necessary to be a person under 30 years of age in vocational training in a private company in the non-agricultural sector and to receive a gross income of less than or equal to the minimum wage; now, it is necessary to have a gross monthly wage of less than or equal to 80% of the minimum wage, i.e. EUR 1 413.54 at present.

Please note

if you are alternating in a company in the agricultural sector, you can also benefit from help from Action Logement, which pays part of your rent: Agri-Mobili-Jeunesse support.

What is the amount of mobilii-jeunesse support?

The amount of the youth mobility assistance is included between €10 and €100 per month. Its level shall be calculated, inter alia, from:

  • your rent (including charges) or rent share (including charges) in the case of a shared rental;
  • the various aids you receive to pay your rent.

For example, if your rent is €250 and you receive €245 from APL (personalized housing assistance), you cannot benefit from the Mobi-Jeunesse assistance because your dependent stay is less than €10. However, if your rent is €350 and you receive €270 from APL, the aid paid is €80; and if your rent is €380 and you receive €220 from APL, the aid paid is €100 (the maximum amount possible).
