Income Tax - Can a parent's funeral expenses be deducted?

Yes, you can deduct funeral expenses for a parent (or other) from your taxable income ascendant), provided that they have not already been paid by the estate.
Tax authorities may ask you to provide one of the following documents:
- Proof of your maintenance obligation (relationship)
- Proof of payment of these fees
- Document certifying that the deceased had no assets (absence of estate)
These fees are to be reported as a maintenance paid to an ascendant.
Tax returns via Internet is required if your principal residence is equipped with internet access and you are able to file your return online.
For 2023, the tax return is complete.
The 2024 income tax return for 2023 will begin in April 2024.
