What is the Nation Recognition Title (NRT)? The TRN is granted to a person who has participated in at least one of the major armed conflicts in which France has participated. This may be a military or civilian person, whether French or not, resident or not in France. We present you with the information you need to know.

Get the TRN: titleContent allows you to:

  • Wearing the National Recognition Medal
  • Access to benefits provided by the National Office of Veterans and Victims of War (ONCVG), including Ehpad labeled Bleuets de France
  • To constitute a mutual pension increased by the State and benefiting from tax advantages

After your death, your coffin may be covered with the tricolor flag.

You must meet the following 2 conditions:

1. You must have been involved in at least one of the following conflicts:

  • 1re world war (1914-1918)
  • Operations conducted between 1918 and 1939
  • 2e world war (1939-1945)
  • Indochina War
  • Military operations in Indochina between 11 August 1954 and 1er october 1957
  • Fighting in Tunisia, between 1er January 1952 and July 2, 1962
  • Fighting in Morocco, between the 1er June 1953 and July 2, 1962
  • War in Algeria between 31 October 1954 and 2 July 1962
  • Military operations in Algeria between 3 July 1962 and 1er july 1964
  • Armed conflicts, operations or missions conducted in accordance with France's international obligations and commitments since 1945

2. In this conflict, you must have served (or performed certain duties) for a period of time or have been injured or contracted an illness while on duty

  • If you were French army officer, you must have served for at least 90 days (consecutive or not), or have been injured in service, or have contracted an illness in service.
  • If you were civil, you must either have held certain positions for at least 90 days (consecutive or not), or have been injured in service, or have contracted an illness in service.

You reside in France

The proof to be provided depends on your nationality:

French
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • Copy of your national identity card or passport
Foreigner
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • A copy of your valid identity card, passport or residence card
  • Copy of the vital card or certificate of rights (vital certificate)

You reside abroad

The proof to be provided depends on your nationality:

French
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • Copy of your national identity card or passport
  • Copy of any document bearing the numberInsee: titleContent, or possibly a copy of your vital card
Tunisian
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • An extract from the civil registration records in French
  • A notoriety certificate in lieu of a birth certificate
Cambodian or Vietnamese
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • Certificate of life and residence less than 3 months old issued by the French consulate or embassy
  • Notoriety certificate in lieu of birth certificate
Laotian
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • Copy of a valid ID
  • Family registration book
  • Residence certificate issued by the village chief or the French embassy
Comorian
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • Birth certificate less than 3 months old
  • Certificate of residence less than 3 years old
Moroccan
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • Certificate of concordance less than 3 months old, written in full in French.
    It must mention, in the first part, your identity at the time of your commitment (exact spelling declared at the time of your commitment) with the date of birth and the complete filiation, and, in the second part, your new identity with the date of birth and the complete filiation that will be issued to you by the registrar of your place of residence.
    The 2 parts must be fully filled in (the act of individuality is not valid)
Algerian
  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • Copy of an ID with a photograph
  • Individual or family civil status card in French, less than 3 months old, and including all the marginal entries
  • Birth certificate less than 3 months old
Nationality of a country in sub-Saharan Africa

These countries are: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Central African Republic, Senegal, Togo.

  • Any military document in your possession (photocopy or originals)
  • French birth certificate with marginal mentions
  • Certificate of concordance or individuality less than 3 months old
  • Certificate of life less than 3 months old
  • Certificate of residence less than 3 months old
  • Original of the military record book

The response time is up to 2 months.

If you have not received a response within 2 months of submitting your application, your application is rejected.

FYI  

If your application is accepted, you will receive your diploma signed by the Minister responsible for Veterans and War Victims. It is addressed to you by theONaCVG: titleContent.
