Leave for Sick Children in the Private Sector

The sick child leave allows you to take days off to care for your sick or injured child under 16 years of age, under conditions. This leave shall be open to any employee, without any length of service requirement. You are not paid during this leave. Of treaty provisions more favorable conditions may provide for remuneration during your leave.
The sick child leave is open to any employee caring for a child under 16 years of age who is sick or injured and for whom he assumes responsibility charge.
A medical certificate must record the illness or accident.
The employee shall forward the certificate (or a copy) to his employer as soon as possible.
General case
The legal duration of the leave is set at 3 days per year.
The collective agreement may grant a longer period of sick child leave.
Your child is less than 1 year old
The legal duration of the leave is set at 5 days per year.
The collective agreement may grant a longer period of sick child leave.
You have at least 3 dependent children
If the employee has at least 3 dependent children under the age of 16, the legal duration of the leave is set at 5 days per year.
The collective agreement may grant a longer period of sick child leave.
General case
The leave shall not be remunerated unless a collective agreement so provides.
