Can we retract after signing a house lease?
Verified 04 October 2021 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
No, it is not possible to withdraw after signing a residential lease.
After the lease is signed, the tenant or landlord can terminate the lease if they follow certain rules:
- The tenant may terminate the lease at any time, subject to a period of notice.
- The owner can terminate the lease on the lease's expiry date and for certain reasons only, unless the lessee has committed serious breaches (e.g. outstanding rent and charges).
FYI
the social lessor (an organization that owns a social housing unit) may terminate the lease when the tenant does not comply with certain rules or no longer meets certain conditions.
