Electricity and gas: how do i choose or change providers?

Verified 10 avril 2020 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

There are several electricity and gas suppliers in the energy market. You can help yourself with a remote service to find a supplier in your municipality.

Search for an electricity and/or gas supplier

National Energy Ombudsman

The change of supplier is free.

FYI : you can change your electricity or gas supplier as many times as you like. You can also return to your former supplier. There is no minimum commitment period.

You can choose 2 different suppliers, one for electricity, the other for gas or on 1 single supplier for electricity and gas.

To make your choice, you can help yourself to a comparator.

By changing supplier, you do not change electricity or gas meter.

Once the contract has been concluded with the new supplier, you do not have to take any further steps. Termination of your old contract is automatic.

Until the change date, your current supplier continues to supply you with energy.

Please note : in the event of a dispute over the execution of your contract, you must make a complaint with acknowledgement of receipt to the customer service of your supplier. If the dispute has not been resolved within 2 months of sending your claim, you can refer the matter to the National Energy Ombudsman free of charge..
