The procedure to follow depends on where you were born overseas.

You were born abroad

The national criminal record service may consult the European database to search for convictions handed down in other countries of the European Union in respect of non-European nationals residing in France.

The service must also include in the European database convictions handed down in France against non-European nationals.

The application for a criminal record extract (Bulletin No. 3) is free of charge. You can apply online or by mail.

You must use the online service of the Ministry of Justice:

You must attach a digital copy (double-sided) of an identity document (ID card, passport, driver's license, etc.) except if you are using FranceConnect.

If your newsletter does not contain any condemnation, it will be sent to you by email or by post.

If you have used FranceConnect, sending by email takes a few minutes. Otherwise, you will receive the email within about an hour.

The mail is sent within a maximum of 2 weeks.

Warning  

if the bulletin mentions convictions, disqualifications or incapacities, it will be sent to you by registered letter with notice of receipt, within 2 weeks maximum.

You can request a criminal record extract (Bulletin No. 3) for your minor child and for any adult whose guardianship.

The law does not provide for a period of validity for the extract from the criminal record. In general, the organization or employer that asks you for Bulletin No. 3 specifies the desired seniority. For example, less than 3 months.
