Verified 19 April 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
Are you a public servant or a contract employee in the territorial public service (FPT) and are likely to be employed in a new occupation? You can take a work transition leave when you meet certain conditions (for example: you are a C-class agent and do not have a bachelor's degree). You continue to receive your gross index salary during the leave. We'll lay out the rules for you.
The purpose of the work transition leave is to enable you to train for a new occupation:
- In the public service
- Or in the private sector.
You can benefit from the career transition leave if you are a public servant or contract worker and you find in any of the following situations :
- You belong to a body or hold a category C job and you do not have a bachelor's degree
- You have a disability and you are entitled to the obligation to employ
- It is established, after consulting the occupational doctor, that you are particularly exposed, in view of your individual professional situation, to a risk of professional wear and tear.
You can take a training course or a training path.
Training may be:
- Let's say one certifying training of a duration of not less than 120 hours
- Or training to assist in the creation or resumption of a company of a duration equal to or greater than 70 hours.
Your administration supports:
- Training costs, possibly up to a maximum
- And, where applicable, the costs of your travel.
The application for work transition leave must be made at least 3 months prior to the date the training begins.
Your application must specify:
- The nature of training
- The duration of the training
- The name of the training organization
- The professional objective.
Your administration informs you of its answer, in writing, within 2 months of receipt of your request for leave.
In the event of a refusal, reasons must be given for the refusal.
En if there was no response from the administration within 2 months upon receipt of your request for leave, your request is considered to be refused.
In the event of acceptance, the benefit of the leave may be deferred in the interests of the service.
Vocational transition leave may be split in:
- Month
- Weeks
- Or days
If your professional project requires one or more courses of which the total duration is sover 12 months, you can request that your work transition leave be prolonged by a vocational leave. In this case, the cumulative duration of your career transition and vocational training leave shall not exceed 5 years.
You must forward, according to a schedule agreed between you and your administration, the certificates drawn up by the training organization, justifying your attendance.
If you stop taking your training without legitimate reason, you lose the benefit of your leave.
During your leave, you continue to receive:
- Your gross index processing
- Your residence allowance and your family treatment supplement, if you have these 2 compensation elements.
Please note
Premiums and allowances may be maintained.
You stay in activity position while you're off.
The period of work transition leave is treated as effective services in your body.
