Thermal cure: covered by the health insurance

Are you wondering about taking care of a thermal cure? Once the prescription has been issued by your doctor and before starting the cure, you must make a request for treatment with the Health Insurance. This support varies according to several criteria (including your resources and your personal situation). Here are the rules to know.
To be managed, your course must:
- To be prescribed by your doctor or sometimes by your dental surgeon (e.g. oral disorders)
- And respect conditions related to the treatments and the spa.
Prescription for a specific medical condition
The Health Insurance is responsible for only cures for which reasons have been given any of the following 12 conditions or conditions:
- Oral-lingual mucosal disorder
- Gastrointestinal and metabolic disorders
- Psychosomatic disorder
- Urinary disorder and metabolic disease
- Dermatology
- Gynecology
- Cardioarterial disease
- Neurology
- Phlebology
- Rheumatology
- Developmental Disorders in Children
- Respiratory disorders.
Approved or contracted spa
To be taken care of, your cure must take place in an establishment approved and contracted by the Health Insurance.
It is your doctor who chooses the station based on your condition. In fact, the place of the cure depends on the condition to be treated: not all spa resorts treat the same pathologies.

If you have complementary health solidarity, treatment facilities must offer you treatment at prices not exceeding conventional tariff.
Duration of the course
To be reimbursed, your cure must include 18 days of actual processing.
However, if your course is incomplete or interrupted for medical or force majeure, it will be covered in proportion to the number of days worked.
You have to fill out a form. It consists of 2 parts:
- Management questionnaire, completed by the doctor who prescribes the course, and which you must sign
- Resource declaration completed, dated and signed by you (you must attach the necessary supporting documents).
Spa treatment - Support questionnaire (accompanied by a declaration of resources).
The form is to be sent:
- To your health insurance fund if you depend on the general plan
- Or to your MSA: titleContent if you are dependent on the farm plan.
In response to your request, your Health Insurance sends you a form cerfa no. 11140 titled "Administrative support of thermal cure and billing".
The form consists of 3 parts:
- Component 1 "Medical fees", to be given to the thermal doctor
- Part 2 "Thermal package", which is to be given to the establishment of your cure
- Component 3 "Transport and accommodation costs". This part is to be sent to your cash register when you return from your cure if you meet the resource requirements.
Your support is valid for calendar year in progress.

Only one thermal cure is granted by calendar yearExcept for the case of severe burns.
Medical expenses
The following medical expenses shall be covered as follows:
- Medical surveillance package reimbursed to 70% of the conventional tariff
- Supplemental medical practices if necessary, reimbursed to 70% of the conventional tariff
- Thermal package (variable, depending on the treatments carried out during the cure), reimbursed to 65% the conventional tariff.

Your health complementary can support the user fee.
Accommodation and transport costs
Your accommodation and transport costs are covered if your resources of the year before the cure have not exceeded €14,664.38.
This ceiling shall be increased by 50%, or 7,332.19 for your spouse, or partner of Civil partnerships: titleContent , and for each entitled at your expense.

Transport costs are supported at 55% on the basis of the price of the round-trip SNCF ticket 2e within the limits of the expenditure actually incurred, on presentation of the supporting documents.
The subsistence costs shall be reimbursed to 65% on the basis of a flat-rate fixed at €150.01, or support for €97.50.
Per diem
A work stoppage prescribed during a thermal cure does not give rise to the payment of daily allowances.
However, this payment is possible if your resources do not exceed a certain amount.
For a prescribed spa cure in 2024 your resources should not exceed €46,368.
For a spa treatment prescribed in 2025, your resources must not exceed €47,100.
This ceiling shall be increased by 50%, or €23,550 for:
- Your husband
- Your Civil partnership partner
- Or dependent child.
Special support rules apply if you are in any of the following situations:

Cure related to a long-term condition (ALD) itself 100% managed
The opinion of the medical service of your health insurance is not necessary.
The treatment of your cure is exempt from user fee if it is related to a ALD and if this condition is itself an exonerating ALD.
Transport costs are supported at 100% (subject to conditions of resources) and with the prior agreement of your health insurance fund. Pick-up takes the form of a flat-rate refund (based on the fare of an SNCF 2 ticket)e round-trip class, within the limits of the expenditure actually incurred).
The amount of the accommodation package is fixed at €150.01. It is supported at 100%, subject to conditions of resources and with the prior agreement of your credit union. It is exempt from the flat-rate contribution of €24.
Cure related to an occupational accident or disease
The opinion of the medical service of your Health Insurance is necessary.
The medical fees and the thermal package are reimbursed on the basis of the conventional rates with exemption from the user fee.
Transport costs shall be reimbursed to 100% within the limits of the expenditure actually incurred.
The accommodation package (€150.01) shall be exempt from the flat-rate contribution of €24.
Cure with hospitalization
The opinion of the medical service of your Health Insurance is necessary.
Coverage of medical expenses: identical to a "normal" cure + 80% hospitalization costs.
Support unconditional resources :
- Accommodation costs
- Transport costs based on 55% or 100% within the limits of the expenditure actually incurred.
