Verified 13 July 2022 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Service-public.fr was created in 2000. It has undergone numerous editorial, functional and technical developments and was recast in 2009, 2015 and 2022.

The current version is accessible from any medium: computer, tablet or mobile. It is part of an overall project designed to provide users with a single point of entry for information, guidance and on-line services.

Organized according to users' needs, the site answers questions such as:

  • Am I eligible for housing assistance?
  • What is the cost of a passport?
  • How do I get the legal aid application form?
  • Can I change my address online?
  • What are the opening hours of the prefecture?
  • Carte grise Do I have to travel to redo my job? etc.

Service-public.fr is intended for individuals and associations.

Professionals have a dedicated site: https://entreprendre.service-public.fr

Service-public.fr has a directory space that references all national public administrations and services (institutions and courts, ministries, independent authorities, embassies, etc.) and local authorities (town halls, prefectures, social services, courts, etc.): directory.service-public.fr.

The site informs and guides users through various sections such as:

  • News: latest administrative news, news folders, alerts, etc.
  • Your rights and procedures: practice sheets and additional information to know and understand its rights and obligations and to carry out administrative procedures.
  • Approaches and tools: access to all online approaches, administrative forms (cerfas), letter templates, research tools and simulators offered by the administration.
  • A question? : Email service and questions/answers via email.

Service-Public.fr is a general service that answers, as precisely as possible, the questions that users ask themselves in the face of the most common situations or difficulties. Exceptions, geographical specificities (e.g. texts only applicable overseas) or special cases are usually not dealt with.

The vocation of service-public.fr is to offer an equal and first level service to all users, throughout the territory and to offer neutral, up-to-date, validated, practical and useful information. It is complementary to local websites, the websites of national bodies and those of ministries that can deal with more specific topics.

The mission of Service-Public.fr is to ensure that information and administrative services are accessible to everyone and everywhere: Internet user or non-Internet user, from Service-Public.fr or a partner site, at its counter.

For example, the information produced for Service-Public.fr can be accessed through different channels and can be reused on other sites:
