All thermal vehicles (petrol or diesel) registered in France for more than 5 years can be converted into electric vehicles (battery or hydrogen). This applies to cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, but also to two or three wheels older than 3 years.

The transformation process

Only a professional installer established in France and authorized by a manufacturer of conversion devices (or kits) may fit the approved kit on the vehicle. You can't settle it yourself.

You don't need to get your converted car certified, because it's the conversion kits themselves that are certified for a certain type of vehicle.

Once the kit is in place, the installer applies a transformation plate to the converted vehicle, next to that of the manufacturer. It shall include the name of the manufacturer of the kit, the VIN number of the vehicle, the approval number of the prototype approval and the reason

conversion of the motor into electric

.

After processing, the installer must provide the manufacturer with a processing certificate and then the manufacturer must issue and sign a certificate of conformity. This document is sent to the owner of the converted vehicle in order to update his certificate of registration.

FYI

The decree on technical and administrative provisions was published on 4 April in Official Journal. The registration process only begins so that the approved kits will not be on the market until the end of the year.

Electrical retrofit premium (conversion premium)
