Hello childhood in danger, 119: a number for emergency situations

119, Hello Children in Danger, is the national hotline for children in danger. While the Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence against Children (Ciivise) has just published a report that calls for 82 measures to better protect children, Service-Public.fr reminds you of the features of this service.

A victim of violence, worried about a peer, concerned about a child’s situation that is in danger or at risk of being in danger: In all of these situations, you can call the 119Hello, childhood in danger.

The 119 is a national number, reachable every day of the year 24/7 and free from all telephones (landlines, mobiles, cabins...).

number 119 complies with the confidentiality calls and does not appear on any phone records.

Who can call 119?

  • Children and adolescents facing a situation of risk and danger to themselves or to another child they know.
  • Young adults as well as adults facing or concerned by a situation of child in danger or at risk of being in danger (close family, extended family, neighbors, educational community...).

What issues does 119 address?

The appeals relate mainly to violence suffered by children: psychological, physical or sexual violence, within the family or in institutions.

45 professional headphones answer calls and advise or refer applicants based on the situation.

Minors' appeals are given priority.

Warning  

in the event of serious or imminent danger, you must contact the emergency services: 112 or 114 for the deaf and hard of hearing (SMS).

  • police or gendarmerie services (17);
  • firefighters (118);
  • the Samu (15).

More ways to contact 119

  • By chat going to the page Need some help? site allô119.gouv.fr. To access the chat, just choose your department from the drop-down menu. This service is open to minors and young adults under 21 years of age (for his own situation or that of a comrade, brother, sister...) 7 days a week, every day of the year, Monday to Friday from 3pm to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 7pm.
  • By email by filling in the dedicated form on the same site. Messages are processed from Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.
  • Via a sign language exchange platform for the deaf or hard of hearing: accessible from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm.

Reminder

the 17 November 2023 report of the International Civil Society on the Rights of the Child highlights that 160,000 children suffer sexual violence each year. 14.5% of women and 6.4% of men have experienced sexual violence before the age of 18.

The Government announced on 20 November 2023 a new 2023-2027 plan to combat violence against children.
