In what cases can you still register to vote after May 6, 2022?

To be able to vote in the 2022 legislative elections, you must be registered on the voters list, the deadline for registration is Friday, May 6, 2022 for the process done by paper form in town hall or by mail. However, in some special cases, it is possible to register after this date to be able to vote in the June 2022 parliamentary elections. Service-Public.fr presents the derogations to you.

It is possible to register after May 6, 2022 if you are in one of the situations referred to in Article L.30 of the Electoral Code that occurred after May 6, 2022:

  • french youth aged 18 between 7 may and 10 june 2022 or between 12 june and 18 june 2022 (vote for 2e round of the election);
  • you are moving for business reasons (other than transfer). Your family members residing with you on the date of the move also benefit from this time limit;
  • you are a public official (civil servant or contract employee) who has retired or moved because of your work (including transfer). Your family members residing with you on the date of your retirement have the same time to register;
  • you are a military member returning to civilian life;
  • you obtain French nationality;
  • you have the right to vote again.

Except in the situations described above, if you move after May 6, 2022, you can vote in the legislative elections of June 12 and 19, 2022 in your former commune in person, by moving, or by establishing a power of attorney to a third party to vote for you.

Please note

If you reach the age of 18 before the election, you are automatically entered on the list of electors, provided that you have completed your census at 16. However, it is recommended that you check your registration using this online service.

How do I register to vote after May 6, 2022?

On the spot, at the town hall of your municipality, with the following documents:

  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of residence of less than 3 months.
  • Form Cerfa n°12669 (also available in town hall).
  • Proof of special situation (decree of withdrawal of staff, proof provided by the pension fund, removal for professional reasons, recent proof of acquisition of French nationality...).

By post (the City Hall must receive your mail by the deadline for registration), with the following documents:

  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of residence of less than 3 months.
  • Form Cerfa n°12669.
  • Proof of special situation (decree of withdrawal of staff, proof provided by the pension fund, removal for professional reasons, recent proof of acquisition of French nationality...).

FYI  

Regardless of your situation, if you are not registered on the voters list because the administration made a mistake (non-registration despite a request made in time, wrongful cancelation), you can obtain your registration until election day by bringing the matter before the court.
