Medical emergency crisis: Persistent malaise

With more than 20 million crossings per year in recent years, emergency departments in hospitals are facing serious congestion problems. The difficulties encountered by these services are a symptom of a broader crisis in the health care system and hospital.

Difficulties of hospitalization downstream of emergencies, increased waiting times, dissatisfaction of patients and staff... Hospital emergencies are in crisis and there are many causes of the malaise.

A risk of disruption of care?

In March 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic triggered a significant surge in healthcare uptake that put pressure on the hospital sector. Hospitals have had to adapt to manage the influx of patients, especially in the emergency services: transfers to other establishments, search for additional beds, mobilization of the health reserve...

After more than two years of health crisis, a report by the Senate Committee of Inquiry on the situation of the hospital in France is concerned about the worsening of hospital malaise. Physical and psychological exhaustion of health professionals, increased departures during careers, recruitment difficulties...
