The Ministry of Interior launches a national information campaign to raise awareness of the women's safety in public spaces. This follows the 2023 annual report of the High Council for Gender Equality on the state of sexism in France, which found that 8 out of 10 women are afraid to go home alone at night. Objective:

reminding everyone of what to do when witnessing or being the victim of an assault

.

If you are the victim of an assault:

  • make noise to alert the people around you, seek help, try to get to safety (administration, commerce, trusted third party);
  • get to safety to warn law enforcement: call  17, state your identity, the location of the assault, where you are, describe the facts and the aggressor if possible.

After the attack:

  • file a complaint at a police station, a gendarmerie brigade or any other suitable place (hospital, Maison des Femmes, town hall, etc.) and meet if necessary with a social worker;
  • connect to the platform My Security in order to be put in contact with a gendarme or a policeman (chat possible 24/7 indicating your location).

If you witness an assault:

  • you can intervene or divert if it does not endanger you;
  • alert law enforcement: call 17, give your identity, the location of the assault, describe the facts and the aggressor.

After the attack:

  • help the victim to reach safety and reassure them;
  • report to the security forces to describe the facts (present any photos and videos taken).

Reminder

in an emergency, you must always dial the 17 (Fallback Font).
