In France

A temporary passport may be issued on urgent medical or humanitarian grounds. The prefectural services decide on the issue depending on the situation. The passport that is issued is valid only for 1 year.

In order to be granted an emergency passport, the minor must to justify urgent displacement, in particular for humanitarian or medical reasons. For example, serious illness or death of a family member.

Warning  

emergency supply shall be granted on an exceptional basis and is not automatic.

The process is done in the prefecture of your choice.

The minor and his/her supervisor must report set at the counter. Their presence is indispensable.

The person responsible must exercise parental authority. It can be the father, the mother or the guardian. He has to show his own ID.

If the application is accepted, the passport can be issued immediately or take a few days.

If the passport is not manufactured immediately, a receipt is issued. It should be presented at the time of withdrawal.

Before age 12

The person in charge has to go to the counter to pick up the passport.

The passport that is issued is an electronic passport.

It does not allow travel to the United States without a visa.

The manager has to go to the counter with her child to retrieve the passport.

From the age of 13

If the person in charge agrees, the child can sign the passport.

If not, the person responsible shall sign it together with the endorsement the father, the mother or the guardian.

If the child had a passport, it must be returned. If it included a visa, it may be kept for the period of validity of that visa.
