International organizations (UN: titleContent, European institutions, the World Bank, etc.) recruit, by contract or by competition, qualified profiles in various fields. Job offers are available on their websites. As an international civil servant, you can also consult databases on the website of the Delegation to International Civil Servants (DFI) and the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO).

An international organization coordinates actions on a particular topic at global, continental or regional level.

It involves States and sometimes national organizations. It is governed by international law.

Examples:

  • United Nations (UN: titleContent)
  • European institutions (European Parliament, European Commission, Court of Justice of the EUEU: titleContent...)
  • International Financial Institutions (World Bank, IMF: titleContent...)

International organizations recruit professionals based on their experience and corresponding to grades.

In principle, you should:

  • have a master 2,
  • 3 years of experience in the field concerned,
  • and master English. Knowledge of a complementary language is an asset.

Within a European institution

To find out how to apply for a position in a European institution, you can consult the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) website.

The selection procedure to follow depends on contract type: DTA: titleContent, CSD: titleContent, temporary contract...

The DTA: titleContent shall be accessible by means of a competitive examination and shall give access to the status of European official.

You can also visit the website of the European institution where you wish to work.

Other international organization

Contract Recruitment

International organizations recruit mainly on contract.

You must apply online on the website of the international organization concerned. See the directory of international organizations.

Shortlisted candidates are placed on a reserve list (called Roster) from which international organizations draw as and when they need it.

Recruitment by competition

The website of the international organization gives the dates of the competitions, the conditions to be fulfilled and the information to prepare it.

You can consult the directory of international organizations to access their sites.

If you are successful in the competition, you must position yourself on the vacancies within the international organization concerned.

Please note

a french civil servant recruited by an international organization may be detached with that organization.

You are advised to be vigilant, as fraud attempts are possible. You can receive emails or go to websites that pose as international organizations.
