Education allowance for disabled children (AEEH)

Verified 01 April 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The Education Allowance for Disabled Children (AEEH) is a financial aid designed to compensate for your expenses related to your child's disability situation under 20 years. The AEEH is paid to parents. It may be supplemented, in certain cases, by other allowances. We present you with the information you need to know.

The Education Allowance for the Disabled Child (AEEH) helps you to pay the disability-related expenditure of your child.

The AEEH may be accompanied by supplements fixed in particular as a function of level of disability of your child. This level of disability is determined by CDAPH: titleContent.

Your child must fill all of the following conditions to collect the EEHA:

  • Be under 20
  • Reside in France permanently
  • Not earning more than 55% the gross monthly minimum, or €971.80
  • Have a disability rate equal to or greater than 80% or a rate of incapacity between 50% and less than 80% with support from a medical-social institution or service, an adapted education system related to disability, care and/or rehabilitation related to disability, recommended by the CDAPH.
Your child must not be in boarding school with full coverage of the costs of stay by the health insurance, the State or the department.

The request can be made online through an online service, if the MDPH: titleContent of your place of residence offers it:

Application for MDPH benefits (AAH, PCH, ...) and renewal

You can also apply by post through a form:

Application or renewal of disability benefits (AAH, PCH, CMI, Accommodation, ...)

You must contact supporting documents mentioned in connection with your online application or on the form.

Documents must be sent to the MDPH: titleContent where you live (or scanned if you apply online).

Who shall I contact

The CDAPH meets to decide on your request for an AEEH and its supplements.

Its response usually occurs in a four-month period from the date of submission of your application.

If no reply is received after 4 months, the request shall be considered as rejected.

To grant the AEEH supplements, the CDAPH determines your child's level of disability and therefore his disability rate. These add-ins are divided into 6 levels of disability.

The CDAPH takes into account the following elements when allocating supplements:

  • Your monthly expenses related to your child's disability (care, education...)
  • Need to hire a third party to care for your child
  • Need to reduce or stop working to care for your child

Basic AEEH

The amount of the AEEH is €149.26.

AEEH and its supplements

The amount of the AEEH can be supplemented, depending on your child's level of disability, by a AEEH complement.

If you are taking care of your child on your own, the AEEH can also be supplemented with the Single parent specific surcharge. However, your child's level of disability should not be level 1.
