Examination of the hunting permit 

You're not not authorized to hunt if you are in any of the following situations:

• You are an adult under guardianship (unless you have permission from the guardianship judge)
• You are denied the right to bear arms following a conviction
• You did not execute a court order for a hunting police offense
• You are sentenced to a ban of entry
• You cannot provide a medical certificate attesting that your physical and mental health condition is compatible with the possession of a weapon
• You have opposed hunting on the land you own
• You are denied the right to retain and obtain a hunting license
• You are registered in the national automated file of prohibited persons acquisition or possession of weapons

Issuance of a hunting permit may be refused if you are in any of the following situations:

• You have been deprived by court order of your civil, civil or family rights
• You are sentenced to more than 6 months in prison for rebellion or violence against a public official
• You are convicted of the offense of unlawful association, manufacture, delivery, distribution of powder, weapons or other munitions of war, or for a written or verbal threat directed to fulfill a condition
• You are subject to a decision to suspend the hunting license or to prohibit its issuance

Before you take the exam, you must obligatory follow a theoretical and practical training.

You must attend at least one session of preparation for written questions and a session of practical training.

Several sessions are organized each year by the departmental hunting federations.

To find out the dates, contact your departmental federation.

The price is €46 (fee of €30 + registration fee for the exam of €16).

Payment is made at the online pre-registration for the exam.

You have to make a online pre-registration the examination of the hunting license.

Pre-registration online for the Hunting Permit Examination

Once you have pre-registered online for the hunting license exam, you must complete a paper file.

Your folder should contain the following documents:

• Form cerfa no. 13945
  - The form contains a declaration on the honor to be signed, certifying that you are not in the cases of incapacity and prohibition that can hinder the issuance of the hunting permit.
  - If you are an adult under guardianship, the form contains an authorization from your legal representative which he must sign
  - The form contains a medical certificate to be filled in by the doctor attesting that your physical and mental health condition is compatible with the possession of a weapon.
  - The form contains a specific frame where you must sign (specimen of your signature)
• Duplex copy of a valid ID (national ID card or passport). If you are a foreigner, resident card or residence permit)
• 1 photo identity to required standards less than 6 months old
• Documents relating to national service obligations if you are french and are between 18 and 25 years old
• Proof of payment made at the online pre-registration for the exam, corresponding to the registration fee for the exam and the fee for issuing the hunting license

File your file, or send it by mail, to the departmental hunting federation in which you are registered to take your exam.

The exam takes place in a single day.

The examination includes practice exercises and written questions.

The examination is noted on 31 points.

To be received, you must get at least 25 points provided that the practical exercises and written questions are not at fault.

Documents to be submitted

On the day of the exam, you must present the following documents :

• Invitation to examination
• Valid ID ID

Written questions

There's 10 written questions.

The questions concern the following subjects:

• Knowledge of wildlife and its habitats
• Knowledge of hunting
• Use of arms and ammunition, safety regulations
• Regulation of hunting and nature protection

Each question is scored on 1 point.

A question on safety is a non-starter.

Practice exercises

The practical exercises take place outdoors on a specially designed site.

They include 4 workshops, marked on 21 points :

• Evolution on a simulated hunting route with blank firing
• Transportation of a weapon in a vehicle
• Semi-automatic or tilting gun test with shot cartridges on clay plates
• Rifled barrel gun test on a running boar for a shooter posted in batter

Any dangerous behavior during the practical exercises is immediately eliminatory and interrupts the examination.

The hunting license inspector gives you a provisional certificate if you pass the exam and meet the conditions to obtain a hunting license.

The provisional certificate is worth a hunting permit for 2 months from the date of passing the examination.

You can have it validated as a hunting license as soon as it is issued.

You receive your hunting license within 2 months at your home.

As soon as you receive your hunting license, you can have validated (if you have not had the provisional certificate validated).
