What should a foreigner do if his or her residence card is lost?

If you are a foreigner and have lost your residence card, you must take different steps depending on the place of loss (in France or at the foreigner). In all cases, you must request a duplicate your residence card. Its cost varies according to type and mention.
What applies to you ?
Loss of card in France
You must apply for a duplicate residence card online.
- Declaration on the honour of the loss of your residence permit
- Photocopy of the lost residence permit (if you have retained one)
- Passport (pages on marital status, validity dates and entry stamps)
- Birth certificate (full copy or extract with filiation)
- If you are married: your spouse's residence card (or identity card) and marriage certificate
- If you have children: birth certificates with your children's parentage
- Proof of domicile less than 3 months old
- 3 photos
- Proof of payment of the fee and/or stamp duty (requested upon delivery of the card)
The issue of the duplicate is not free (payment by tax stamps)
General case
1 Year Card
You must pay:
- €225
- or €75 if you are:
- You are a student
- You have a accident at work pension or work-related illness card
- You have an intern card
- You have a job search or company creation card
- You have a young au pair card
- You have a family reunion card
- You have a seasonal worker card
- or €25 if you are:
- You have been taken care of by Child Welfare
- You have a sickness card
- You are stateless or stateless
- You are a subsidiary or family member
If you have a card as a victim of domestic violence, human trafficking or procuring, the duplicate is free.
Multi-Year Card
You must pay:
- €225
- or €75 if you have a multiannual card student or a multi-year card for family reunification.
10 Year Resident Card
You must pay:
- €225
- or €75 if you have a card accident at work pension or occupational disease.
If you have a card as a victim of domestic violence, human trafficking or procuring, the duplicate is free.
10-Year Retired/Spouse Card
You must pay €25.
Algerian or Algerian
1 year residence certificate
You must pay:
- €225
- or €75 if you have a student or trainee residency certificate.
10-year residence certificate
You must pay €25 (stamp duty).
Loss of card to foreigner
You must first report the loss of your residence card in the foreigner concerned to the local police authorities, then at the French embassy or consulate in the country concerned.
You request a return visa at the French embassy or consulate in the country where you are, so that you can return to France.
Before issuing this visa, the embassy or consulate shall carry out an investigation with the prefecture where the residence permit is issued. This investigation can be lengthy.
