Kindergarten or elementary school: passage, repetition or class jump

Your child is in primary school (kindergarten or elementary) and you wonder about his orientation? Upgrade, repetition or class jump: here is the information to know.

Kindergarten

The school board of teachers shall be composed of the following members:

  • School principal
  • School Masters
  • Alternate Masters
  • Members of the network of specialized assistants working in the school

It shall meet at least once every three months.

At the end of the school year, the Board of Masters shall decide on theorientation of your child. He can take theone of the decisions following:

  • Upgrade
  • Class Skip if your child demonstrates great facilities in learning

The repetition is impossible.

Please note

The Board of Masters may pronounce as much as possible one class jump during your child's primary school education (kindergarten and elementary). Exceptionally, it may pronounce a 2nd class jump after the opinion of the inspector of national education.

The Board of Masters sends you its orientation decision.

At the end of the large section class (last year of kindergarten), the council sends you a synthesis of learning outcomes of your child. This summary mentions what he can do, its strengths and possibly the needs to be taken into account to help him along his path.

If you are in disagreement with the board's decision, you have 15 calendar days (from receipt of the decision) for appeal.

To do so, you must file an application written, through the school principal, before the departmental appeal board.

This committee shall be chaired by the Dasen: titleContent. It includes inspectors responsible for the constituencies of 1er degree, school principals, teachers of the 1er degree and parents of pupils. It must also be composed of at least one school psychologist, a doctor of National Education, a principal of college and a teacher of the 2nd college teaching degree.

You can ask to be heard by this commission.

The board can decide whether your child will move to the upper class or the class jump.

If you disagree with the appeal board's decision, you can refer the matter to the National Education Ombudsman.

Elementary

The school board of teachers shall be composed of the following members:

Please note

The repetition may be decided if the pedagogical support has not made it possible to put an end to your child's significant learning difficulties.

A repetition must be accompanied by specific educational measures for the pupil (e.g. personalized educational achievement program).

The Board of Masters sends you its orientation decision.

At the end of the CM2 class, the Board thus decides on the whether or not your child is in middle school.
