Foreigner in France: temporary residence card - trainee (mobile) ICT

Verified 01 January 2024 - Legal and Administrative Information Directorate (Prime Minister)

If you are a foreigner no European and come to France to do an internship in a company of the group that employs you, you must enter France with a long-stay visa ICT trainee or ICT mobile trainee. This visa must be valid for the duration of the internship. The total duration of your stay in France is 1 year maximum.

The temporary residence card ICT trainee (or ICT mobile trainee) allows you to stay in France to do an internship as part of a intra-group temporary transfer (Intra corporate transfer).

You are affected if you meet all of the following conditions:

  • You have a VLS-TS ICT trainee (or an "ICT" residence permit issued by another EU Member State, if you are an ICT mobile trainee)
  • You come to France to do an internship at an institution or company of the group that employs you abroad
  • You have a traineeship agreement or an employment contract with the company that employs you abroad
  • You have a seniority of at least 6 months in the group that you are using

If you are an ICT mobile trainee and your mobility is less than 90 days, there will be no issuance of a residence permit in France. In this case, you retain the residence permit issued to you by the Member State of the European Union (EU) who welcomed you as an "ICT trainee".

Your family members can also reside in France with the residence permit issued by the EU host country.

FYI

other rules apply if you are Algerian. If you are European, you do not need a residence permit.

You must submit your card application within 2 months of the expiry date of your VLS-TS to the prefecture (or sub-prefecture) of your home. Find out more on the website of the prefecture.

If you submit your application after the deadline, except in cases of force majeure or presentation of a valid visa, you will have to pay, in addition to the cost of the card, a visa fee for regularization of the €180.
