Covid-19: The management of testing is evolving

Publié le null - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

From 1er March 2023, Health Insurance’s coverage of Covid antigen and RT-PCR tests and serological tests is evolving. A user fee now applies to all insured persons, without distinction between vaccinated and non-vaccinated persons, except for certain persons for whom care is maintained at 100%. An order issued in Official Journal of 28 February 2023 amends the rules for the management of SARS-CoV-2 virus testing.

The improved health situation linked to the COVID-19 outbreak in France allows the testing strategy to be adapted.

100% of Covid testing coverage by Health Insurance for all vaccinees ends on 1er March 2023.

The February 27, 2023 order limits the list of people for whom Covid-19 testing is fully covered by Social Security.

From 1er March 2023, screening tests (antigens, RT-PCR) are paid without a medical prescription with the introduction of user fees (co-payments), except for certain people who receive 100% care:

  • persons recognized as having a long-term illness (LTD);
  • persons aged 65 years and over;
  • minors;
  • healthcare professionals and their employees and persons working in a healthcare establishment or in a social or medico-social service, provided that they attestation on honor justifying their function;
  • immunocompromised persons, for antibody testing;
  • persons undergoing organized group screening.

The insured person’s co-payment is determined according to the health professional issuing the test. The insured person will have to pay 30% of the cost of the test if it is performed by a doctor or pharmacist and 40% if it is performed by a nurse or a physical therapist. If you receive a health supplement (mutual) or the solidarity health supplement, the user fee for the Covid-19 tests is fully reimbursed.

These new arrangements apply in mainland France and in all overseas departments and regions: Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion and Mayotte.
