A simulator to check if your city is now located in zone A, B or C

ABC zoning was introduced in 2003 as part of the “Robien” rental investment scheme. A decree of 2 October 2023 allows the reclassification of more than 200 municipalities under ABC zoning.

Among them, 154 go into “tense zone” to support the production of new housing in areas with a tense market, promoting intermediate rental housing and pass on to new purchasers the zero-interest loan from 2024.

5 geographical areas

French municipalities are classified according to the level of imbalance between housing supply and demand. This ranking takes into account real estate prices, the amounts of housing rents and the "territorial dynamics" (e.g. demographic change). In particular, it makes it possible to determine the municipalities in which housing subsidies are applicable.

The 5 categories of geographical areas, in descending order of tension, are as follows:

• categories A, AA, B1 : areas considered as ‘stretched’;
• category B2 : ‘unbalanced’ areas;
• category C : “unstretched” zones.
