Road Safety Awareness Course

Volunteer internship to collect points on the permit
You can choose to take an internship to collect points on your driver's license.
Your permit must be valid (you must have 1 point or more).
You can recover up to 4 points within the limit of your license ceiling (12 points, or 6 points for a probationary permit less than 1 year).
You can do Maximum 1 internship per year.
Example :
If you do an internship on the 1ster on october 2, 2023, you can do a new internship starting on the 1er October 2024.
Mandatory internship in case of loss of 3 points or more on the probationary permit
You have a probationary driving license when you get the license for the 1re once or as a result of invalidation or a judicial annulment.
The probationary permit has 6 points.
The number of points increases until it reaches 12 points during the probationary period, provided that no offense leading to the withdrawal of points is committed.
In the event of an infringement punishable by a 3-point indentation or more in probationary period, you must obligatory take a road safety awareness course.
You receive from the Ministry of the Interior a registered letter (48N).
This letter 48N you notify the withdrawal of points and the obligation to take an internship within 4 months upon receipt of the letter.
The course allows you to recover up to 4 points within the maximum points of your probationary permit.
Please note
failure to comply with the obligation to attend the internship is punishable by a fine of up to €750. You may also suspension of driving license up to 3 years.
The price medium of the course is €200.
However, the traineeship manager is free to set the price.
The internship lasts 2 consecutive days (14 hours, or 7 hours a day).
The course is led by a road safety expert and a psychologist, who are graduates and authorized to lead the road safety awareness courses.
The aim of the training is to change the behavior of the driver.
The syllabus includes 2 modules :
- Teaching on general drivers of road insecurity (accident case studies, driving exercises...)
- Special education on specific themes (speed, psychoactive products...)
If necessary, a personalized interview and/or a driving session can be organized.
Interview is mandatory if you have already participated in 2 road safety awareness courses.
Maintenance takes a minimum of 45 minutes. He is led by the psychologist of the internship, outside the 14 hours of the internship.
You must take the road safety awareness course in a approved establishment by the prefect.
You can sign up for an internship in any department.
The list of approved establishments is available on the website of each prefecture.
You can also contact the prefecture.
One probationary certificate you are given if you have completed the entire course.
You are informed by mail of the points recovered (note that it may take several weeks to send the mail).
In practice, dots are added on your permit when the administration registers your certificate of internship.

Voluntary internship to avoid criminal trial
To avoid criminal trial in the event of an infringement while driving a vehicle, the public prosecutor may offer you a road safety awareness course.
The internship does not allow you to recover points.

In the event of a violation, the judge may require you to take a road safety awareness course as part of the probation stay or as additional penalty to a principal penalty.

- To the public prosecutor if the internship is completed as additional penalty
- To the sentencing judge or the penitentiary service responsible for monitoring the obligation, if the internship is imposed under the probation stay
Reminder
This course does not allow you to collect points on your driver's license.
