Can I choose the address on the carte grise?

Verified 16 September 2021 - Legal and Administrative Information Directorate (Prime Minister)

No, you cannot choose the address that will appear on your carte grise.

Indeed, the carte grise must indicate the address of the principal domicile of holder. Therefore, you cannot register your vehicle in the department where you have a second home.

You pay tax corresponding to the department of your main residence.

The carte grise will be sent to this address.

FYI

however, you can choose the department of your choice (territorial identifier) for your licence plates, without necessarily being your principal residence.
