In the event of an alcohol-related traffic offense, the Prefect may decide that your right to drive is limited to a vehicle equipped with an approved anti-start alcohol test (EAD) device. Penalty for alcohol related offense

The Prefect may decide to restrict your right to drive to a vehicle equipped with an EAD in the following cases:

Alcohol dependence

Driving licenses requiring drivers to drive vehicles equipped with an EAD may concern the following persons:

  • Driver's license applicant with alcohol-related addictive practices (misuse or alcohol use disorder)
  • Driver's license holder with alcohol-related addictive practices

On a proposal from medical board to assess your medical fitness for driving, the prefect may issue you a driving license requiring you to drive a vehicle equipped with an EAD.

You must also take an internship at an institution specialized in addictology. The course covers the period from 6 months to 1 year corresponding to the duration of the prescription of the EAD. It shall include:

  • an individual reception session,
  • 2 medical consultations at the beginning and end of the internship
