Installation of a geothermal heat pump: aid increased to EUR 5 000

Publié le null - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

From March 2023, the aid for the installation of a heat pump will increase to €5,000, regardless of income level. The measure, designed to encourage the French to use geothermal energy, is part of the plan to accelerate renewable energy sources presented by the Ministry of Energy Transition on 2 February. The development of renewable heat is one of the levers to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Heat accounts for 50% of energy consumption in France, and is mostly produced by fossil fuels and imported.

Geothermal solutions offer an inexhaustible source of natural heat linked to the geological functioning of the Earth, but today they account for only 1% of this consumption.

The goal of the geothermal deployment plan is to double the number of residential geothermal heat pump facilities by 2025.

Reminder

The installation of a geothermal heat pump represents a significant cost. It takes between 18,000 and 20,000 € depending on the depth of the installation.

FYI

Geothermal energy is the process of extracting renewable heat from the ground, which is linked to the geological functioning of the Earth. The geothermal heat pump replaces the traditional oil or gas boiler and is an economical and environmentally friendly heating system.

Doubling the number of geothermal heat pump installations in homes

As of 1er March 2023, all households wishing to switch to geothermal, regardless of their income level, will be eligible for €5,000. The aid was until then €4,000 for the most modest households and €2,500 for middle and upper income households.

Please note

According to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, a geothermal heat pump saves €500 per year compared to gas heating and €800 compared to oil heating.

How do I qualify for support for the installation of a heat pump?

If you want to settle a geothermal heat pump, you must choose a company (energy supplier) who signed the “heating boost” charter. Once the company's proposal has been accepted, your work must be carried out by an EGR (Recognized Guarantor of the Environment) professional.

At the end of the work, the invoices and all other supporting documents will be sent to the energy supplier who signed the charter. The bonus will then be paid to you by check, transfer, voucher or will be deducted directly from the invoice.

FYI

This aid for heat pumps may be combined with other aid for energy. At the same time, you can take advantage of thezero-interest eco-loan or MaPrimeRénov’. However, it cannot be added to the financial aid of the Ademe (Environment and Energy Management Agency).

The Government states that the various aid schemes can cover up to 90 % of the cost of installing a heat pump.
