Where do you have to register to vote after you move? If you stay in France, you must register at the town hall of your new municipality, or declare your new address in the same municipality to your town hall. If you come back to live in France, you must register at the town hall of your new home. If you are going to live abroad, you have to choose between staying on the list of your city hall or registering on the consular list of your host country.

Departure for the foreigner
If you move to live abroad, you can to vote from the foreigner in presidential, European and legislative elections, councilors of the foreigner and referendums. To do so, you must register on a consular voters list. This registration will automatically delete your previous registration.

Register to vote from the foreigner

You can request your registration on the consular voters list when you register on the register of French nationals established outside France or after you have registered in that register.
You must use this online service:
On site (consulate, embassy)
You can apply for registration on the consular voters list by going directly to the consulate (or embassy).
You must provide the following:

- Proof of residence in the consular constituency

You can register to vote in one of the following municipalities:
- Municipality where your home is located
- Municipality where you have lived for at least 6 months
- Municipality where you have been subject to local taxes (housing tax or company property tax or property tax on built or unbuilt property) for at least 2 years
- Municipality in which a business has been subject to local taxes for at least 2 years and of which you have been the manager (manager) or shareholder (majority or sole) for at least 2 years
- Commune where you were born
- Municipality of your last home
- Municipality of your last residence, provided that it was at least 6 months
- Commune where one of your parents (up to 4th degree) was born, is registered or was registered on the list of electors
- Commune where your spouse or one of your parents (up to 4th degree) is registered or has been registered on the list of electors
You are not registered
You can register to vote in one of the following municipalities:
- Municipality where your home is located
- Municipality where you have lived for at least 6 months
- Municipality where you have been subject to local taxes (housing tax or company property tax or property tax on built or unbuilt property) for at least 2 years
- Municipality in which a business has been subject to local taxes for at least 2 years and of which you have been the manager (manager) or shareholder (majority or sole) for at least 2 years
Permanent return to France
If you were not registered on the electoral list of a commune when you resided abroad, then you must register on the electoral list of your commune to be able to vote in France.
You can register to vote in one of the following municipalities:
- Municipality of your home
- Municipality in which you have been subject to local taxes (housing tax, company property tax, property tax on built or unbuilt property) for at least 2 years
- Municipality of your residence, if you have lived there effectively and continuously for at least 6 months
- Municipality where you are required to reside as an official
- Municipality where the business, of which you have been the manager or majority or sole partner for at least 2 years, has been registered in the role of municipal contributions for at least 2 years
