Voting by a European citizen: what proof of residence to register?
In order to apply to be registered on the electoral list of a municipality, one must either have his residence or reside in that municipality, or be subject to local taxes of the municipality, or be the manager or partner (majority or sole) of a company located in that municipality. One or more supporting documents must be provided.

Resident or resident
For your home
You must provide proof less than 3 months, in your name and mentioning the address of your residence in the municipality.
The most commonly accepted supporting documents are:
- Attestation or invoice (less than 3 months) of water, electricity, gas, landline telephone established in your name by this company
- Home insurance certificate (less than 3 months old)
- Non-handwritten rent receipt (less than 3 months)
- Salary slip or pension document (less than 3 months)
- Household waste collection fee (most recent)
- If you are in a retirement home, a certificate from the manager (less than 3 months old) stating the address of the establishment and certifying the reality of the accommodation
In case of residence in the municipality
The residence is where you live at the time of application effectively and continuously, for at least 6 months. It is not enough to work in the commune.
For example, you can provide one of the following documents:
- Invoice (less than 3 months) for water, electricity, gas or landline
- Certificate of insurance (less than 3 months)
- Rent receipt (less than 3 months)
Warning
a secondary residence occupied only during holidays or weekends does not have the character of residence.

At your father's and/or mother's
You're under 26
You have to provide the following 2 documents :
- Document of less than 3 months proving the parent's domicile in the commune
- Document proving link of parentage. For example, copy of family record, birth certificate with indication of filiation.
You are 26 years of age or older
You have to provide the following 3 documents :
- Letter signed by the parent hosting you, certifying that you live at home and less than 3 months old
- Document proving your connection with the municipality (recent salary statement or any document indicating your name and the address of the parent hosting you)
- Copy of the identity card of the parent hosting you
In another person
You have to present the following 3 documents :
- A letter signed by the person hosting you, certifying that you live at their home and less than 3 months old,
- Document proving your connection with the municipality (recent salary statement or any document indicating your name and the address of the person hosting you)
- Copy of the host identity card
In some cases, the member may register in a municipality other than the one in which he/she resides/resides. He must then provide proof of the attachment he has with this other commune.

In this case, you must provide one of the following documents :

The mariner (craftsman or employee) or member of his family living on board may choose to apply for registration on the electoral list of certain municipalities belonging to his region of attachment.
In this case, the mariner must provide proof of his mariner activity (e.g. employment contract, employer's certificate, pay slip). They must also provide proof of your registration in a home region.
The family member living on board must provide proof of this.
Taxpayer (local taxes)
You have to prove that you have been subject to certain local taxes of the municipality for at least 2 years. It may be the same tax or different taxes successively during this period. The local taxes concerned are as follows:
- Residential tax
- Property tax, on built or unbuilt property
- Company property tax (ex-business tax)
You have to provide
- either the last 2 tax notices (on which your name appears),
- or a certificate from the departmental directorate of public finance where your name appears.

when you are registered on the list of the municipality, your spouse can apply to be registered on the same list of electors as yours.
Head of company
You must prove that you have been the manager (manager) for at least 2 years of a business registered for at least 2 years in the role of the contributions of the municipality.
The following 3 documents must be provided:
- Appointment decision (or extract) or copy of the appointment decision rewritten in the register of decisions of general meeting of the business or even the statutes of the business
- Document proving the inclusion of the business in the role of the contributions of the municipality, for at least 2 years
- Honor certificate of the continuity of your position as manager (manager) of the business for at least 2 years

You have to prove that you have been for at least 2 years the majority or sole member of a business which has been included in the list of contributions of the municipality for at least two years. This can be one of the following businesses:
- Limited Liability business (LLC)
- Business in a general name (CNS)
- single sponsorship business
- civil business
The following 3 documents must be provided:
- Copy of the articles of incorporation of the business (or copy of the updated articles of incorporation or copy of the instrument of transfer of shares)
- Document proving the inclusion of the business in the role of the contributions of the municipality for at least 2 years
- Honor certificate of the continuity of your position as majority or sole partner of the business for at least 2 years

You have to prove that you have been for at least 2 years the majority or sole member of a business which has been included in the list of contributions of the municipality for at least two years. This can be one of the following businesses:
- Anonymous business (SA)
- Limited Partnership business (SCA)
- Simplified share business (SAS)
The following 3 documents must be provided:
- Certificate issued by the business of which you own shares or control
- Document proving the inclusion of the business in the role of the municipality for at least 2 years
- Honor certificate of the continuity of your position as a single majority partner of the business for at least 2 years
