At what age can you drive a scooter or motorcycle?

If you have the BSR (AM category of license) or a recognized equivalent document issued by a European country, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Moped (e.g. 50 cm scooter3)
  • Light motor quadricycle (for example, cart, quad with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cm3)

Please note

if you were born before 1988, you do not need a driving license.

With BSR (AM category of license)

If you have the BSR (AM category of license) or a recognized equivalent document issued by a European country, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Moped (e.g. 50 cm scooter3)
  • Light motor quadricycle (for example, cart, quad with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cm3)

if you were born before 1988, you do not need a driving license.

With license A1

If you have the A1 permit, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Light motorcycle  with or without side-car
  • 3-wheel scooter (category L5e) whose power is 15 kW: titleContent maximum (20 ch: titleContent)

If you have the BSR (category AM driving license) or a recognized equivalent document issued by a European country, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Moped. For example, scooter 50 cm³.
  • Light motor quadricycle. For example, cart , quad with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cm³.

if you were born before 1988, you do not need a driving license

With license A1

If you have the A1 permit, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Light motorcycle  with or without side-car
  • 3-wheel scooter (category L5e) whose power is 15 kW: titleContent maximum (20 ch: titleContent)

With license A2

If you have the A2 permit, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Motorcycle with or without side-car, including the power does not exceed 35 kW: titleContent (47.5 ch: titleContent) and whose power/weight ratio does not exceed 0,2 kW: titleContent per kg
  • 3-wheel scooter (category L5e) of which the power is 15 kW: titleContent maximum (20 ch: titleContent)

Warning  

the power of the motorcycle may not result from the clamping of a vehicle developing more than 70 kw.

With license A2

If you have the A2 permit, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Motorcycle with or without side-car, including the power does not exceed 35 kW: titleContent (47.5 ch: titleContent) and whose power/weight ratio does not exceed 0,2 kW: titleContent per kg
  • 3-wheel scooter (category L5e) of which the power is 15 kW: titleContent maximum (20 ch: titleContent)

Warning  

the power of the motorcycle may not result from the clamping of a vehicle developing more than 70 kw.

With license A

If you have the A2 permit since at least 2 years, you can follow a training for obtain permit A.

With the A license, you can drive the following vehicles:

  • Motorcycle with or without side-car, regardless of its power
  • 3-wheel scooter (category L5e) of which the power is 15 kW: titleContent maximum (20 ch: titleContent)
