1/Permit B

Permit B authorises the operation of a vehicle with a maximum permissible gross vehicle weight (TWTP) of not more than 3,500 kilogrammes.

- This vehicle may be coupled with a trailer when the PTAC of the trailer is less than or equal to 750 kg.

- This vehicle may be coupled with a trailer where the TWTP of the trailer is greater than 750 kg, provided that the sum of the TWTP of the vehicle and trailer combination does not exceed 3 500 kg.

2/Permit B96

Licence B96 authorises the operation of a vehicle with a total permissible laden weight (TTOW) of not more than 3,500 kilogrammes.

This vehicle may be coupled with a trailer where the Tow of the trailer is greater than 750 kg, provided that the sum of the TTOP of the vehicle and trailer combination does not exceed 4 250 kg.

3/BE permit

The BE permit authorises the driving of a vehicle with a total permissible laden weight (PTAC) of not more than 3,500 kg.

This vehicle may be coupled with a trailer having a PTAC of not more than 3 500 kg where the sum of the PTAC of the vehicle and trailer combination is more than 4 250 kg.

Without trailer

The permit B allows the driving of a motorhome which has the following 3 characteristics:

  • Assigned to transport of persons
  • PTAC less than or equal to 3,5 tons
  • 9 seats maximum (driver included)
With trailer

The following permits authorise the driving of a category B (motorhome of up to 3.5 tons) coupled with a trailer:

1/Permit B

3/BE permit

The BE permit authorises the driving of a vehicle with a total permissible laden weight (PTAC) of not more than 3,500 kg.

This vehicle may be coupled with a trailer having a PTAC of not more than 3 500 kg where the sum of the PTAC of the vehicle and trailer combination is more than 4 250 kg.

The following permits authorise the operation of a motor home exceeding 3.5 tons (less than 7.5 tons):

If you are driving abroad, code 79 must be affixed to the driver's licence (motorhome/motor caravan code including PTAC exceeds 3.5 tons).

Warning  

You cannot drive a motorhome of more than 3.5 tons with the following B licences:

  • Permit B issued on or after January 20, 1975
  • Permit B issued before January 20, 1975, invalidated or cancelled after that date
  • Permit B issued before January 20, 1975 obtained following the exchange of a permit issued by another State (European (or not) where the exchange took place after 20 January 1975
  • Licence B issued before January 20, 1975 following the validation of a professional diploma when this validation took place after January 20, 1975
  • B licence issued before January 20, 1975, obtained following the conversion of a military driver's licence when that conversion took place after January 20, 1975

The following permits authorise the driving of a lorry whose PTAC: titleContent is between 3,5 and 7,5 tons:

  • PERMIT if there is a trailer with PTAC: titleContent exceeds 750 kg

Bus or coach with 17 seats (driver included)

The following permits authorise the driving of a coach or bus 17 places, including the driver, and 8 m maximum length  ::

  • D1 Permit
  • D1 Permit if there is a trailer with PTAC: titleContent is not more than 750 kg
  • D1E Licence if there is a trailer with a PTAC of more than 750 kg
