Are family benefits paid on a means-tested basis?
Verified 01 November 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
In most cases, family benefits are subject to income conditions. That is, above a certain income threshold, the family is no longer entitled to it, or the amount of benefits paid is lower.
Means-tested benefits
- Early Childhood Care (ECEC) Bonus at Birth
- Basic Pay Allowance
- Pay Adoption Premium
- Moving allowance
- Supplement for the daily parental attendance allowance (DPA)
- Back-to-school allowance (RSA).
Benefits reduced by income
Benefits without income conditions
- Shared Child Education Benefit (PreParE)
- Family Support Allowance (FSA)
- Daily parental attendance allowance (DPA)
- Education allowance for disabled children (AEEH)
Warning
So that the parents can benefit from the AEEH, the child shall not earn more than 55% the gross monthly minimum, or €990.99.
