Marriage, Civil partnerships or cohabitation (unmarried): what differences?

When you want to live together, you can choose between cohabitation (free union), Civil partnerships: titleContent or marriage. The resulting rights and obligations differ if you are cohabiting, married or married.

Tenant couple

Owner couple
If the 2 concubines buy a house together, they are considered undivided owners. The distribution is indicated in the deed of purchase (e.g. by half).

- Life insurance contracts co-accession
Other savings products may only be opened in the name of one person (booklet A, PEL, PEA,...)
Appropriations
You can choose from the following options:
- Co-borrow with the person you live with as a couple and be co-responsible for debts incurred
- Borrow individually and be solely responsible for your debts
- Borrow individually and have the person you live with as a couple to deposit
- Guarantee the credit of the person you live with as a couple
- Borrow or lend to the person you live with as a couple, by establishing a recognition of debts
FYI
where mortgage if you are a co-borrower, you must also be a co-acquirer.
Taxes

Vehicles
You can have a registration card with the 2 names for each vehicle, observing specific rules.
Warning
the registration of the 2 names does not affect the ownership of the vehicle, which remains that of the purchaser (or purchasers, in case of condominiums).

You can establish, with the person you live with as a couple, for your valuables, a list explaining who owns what (one, the other or the 2).
Private sector employees
If you are moving, find out about the removal leave that you can enjoy in your company.
Get in touch with your employer to find out if there is any possibility of changing your location.
If you do not have a satisfactory proposal, consider looking for a new job close to your partner's home.
