What's new in the 2023 school year

For the 2023 school year, what are the changes? The back-to-school circular 2023 was published in the Official Bulletin of National Education on July 6, 2023. It sets out priorities for the 2023-2024 school year.

Information for parents about their child's education

Every parent of a pupil has the right to be informed of the schooling of his minor child, whether or not he exercises parental authority. This information is provided through the transmission of certain documents (possibly electronic or via the Internet) but also during meetings between parents and teachers. The Ministry of National Education provides the national unit throughout the year

Representatives of parents of pupils

Parent representatives in primary (nursery and elementary), middle and high schools are elected representatives who participate in the life of the school, in particular by facilitating relations between parents and teachers. Elections to elect representatives of parents of students take place this year on Friday, October 13, or Saturday, October 14, 2023.

School insurance

School insurance covers both damage caused by the child (civil liability) and damage that the child may suffer (personal accident insurance). It is an optional insurance, but it can be compulsory in certain circumstances (optional activities organized by the school, canteen...).

Canteen

Variety of dishes served, adapted portions, specific rules for serving water, bread, salt and sauces... For primary schools, responsibility for restoration lies with the municipality or the public establishment for intercommunal cooperation (EPCI), while for colleges and high schools, responsibility lies with the department or the region respectively.

Student Health

A child must be vaccinated to attend school. During his schooling, he receives health checks and participates in prevention and health education activities. If the child is ill during school, the family should notify the institution, particularly if the child has a contagious or chronic illness that requires special care.

Sports at school, from kindergarten to high school

Physical activity and sport contribute fully to the education of children. It allows them to integrate common rules, to gain confidence in themselves, to discover themselves while learning to better know their body. Sports practice conveys the values of solidarity, respect, will and excellence. The aid of €50 for registration in a sports club is extended until 31 December 2023 and is open to new beneficiaries.

School holiday calendar

The dates of the school holidays depend on the area where the school is located. Metropolitan France is divided into 3 academic zones to which must be added the Academy of Corsica.
